Who can open an account

The bank serves individuals and companies. The business account requirements are strict: the company and every company in its ownership structure must be registered in Georgia or in one of the countries listed by the bank (including EU and Schengen countries, the UK, the US, Canada, Japan, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan). All directors and ultimate beneficial owners must be citizens of Georgia or of a listed country, or hold a Georgian residence permit.

The requirements for a foreign individual’s personal account (for example, whether a residence permit is needed) are not stated separately on the bank’s website, so check this with customer support.

How to open an account

To open a personal account, download the Paysera app, enter your phone number, create a password, accept the agreements and confirm your number with an SMS code. Then fill in the customer questionnaire (KYC) and complete identification in the app with your passport or ID card. For higher limits, you need to complete identification at the bank’s service center.

A director opens a business account from their own verified personal account: they choose to open a business account, select the country of registration and then enter the company’s identification code. To open a business account under a power of attorney, you need to visit the service center (4/2 Akaki Tsereteli Ave., Tbilisi).

Documents you will need

For individuals:

  • A passport or ID card for identification
  • Phone number
  • Questionnaire answers: your activity, main source of income, planned services and monthly turnover, citizenship and politically exposed person status

For a company, you need the director’s verified personal account and the company’s country of registration and identification code; the exact document list depends on the company’s legal form. If the bank cannot obtain the documents from the registry, you must submit originals or certified copies within 60 calendar days.

Fees and charges

According to the Georgian-language version of the bank’s fees page, remote account opening and maintenance are free for individuals, while the inactive account fee is 2 GEL. Business identification is free remotely and costs 10 GEL at the service center.

The monthly business account fee for a company registered in Georgia is not clearly shown in the fee table, so confirm it with the bank. Fees are higher for offshore companies and financial institutions.

Things to keep in mind

Paysera does not work with certain countries and regions (for example, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, North Korea and Syria) and does not process transfers involving them. A personal account is opened for your own use only. The bank may request original documents or apostilled or notarized copies.
