TBC Bank account opening guide

TBC Bank has a separate English-language section for expats on its website. Foreigners can start registration online, and the account opening is completed at a branch or by video call.

Who can open an account

The bank opens accounts for both Georgian citizens and foreign individuals (expats, in the bank’s terms). A separate product is the business account for companies whose partner or shareholder is a foreign individual.

The bank’s website currently has no information on accounts for companies registered abroad or on citizenship-related restrictions, so check this in advance.

How to open an account

You can start registration online, on the non-resident page (nonresident.tbcbank.ge) or in the mobile banking app: you confirm your email, fill in your personal details and upload your passport. The account opening is completed at a branch or by video call.

New clients who are abroad can also open an account through Video Bank: you request a call in advance and connect at the scheduled time by phone or laptop, with a valid passport or ID card at hand. You can also use the bank’s services through a power of attorney; the power of attorney form is on the expats page.

Documents you will need

For individuals who are not Georgian citizens, the bank’s fees page lists:

  • An identity document: an international passport or another document valid for crossing the Georgian border
  • A self-declaration stating the purpose of the account and your expected banking transactions (you sign it during your visit to the bank)
  • At the bank’s request: documents proving the source of funds, a special questionnaire, a document proving your address and information about your activity

Under National Bank of Georgia requirements, you must present the original of your identity document: the bank does not accept a copy or photo of your passport. Examples of documents proving the source of funds (a sale or lease agreement, a bank statement for the last three months, a salary certificate, etc.) are listed separately by the bank.

Company account

An account for a company that has a foreign individual as a member can currently be opened only at a TBC Bank branch, not online. The company’s director, beneficial owner and controlling person must first register as clients of the bank.

For the first account, you need:

  • The general agreement
  • The KYC form
  • Annex 2-187 (on beneficial owners)
  • Product registration (account, card, internet banking)
  • A registry extract and the company charter

Depending on the case, you may also need meeting minutes, a power of attorney, an extract from the share register or an AML questionnaire. The bank recommends contacting the branch or the hotline before your visit.

Fees and charges

For a company whose beneficial owner, shareholder or controlling person is a foreign individual, registering banking products, including the application review, costs 500 GEL unless other terms have been agreed with the bank. Opening a current account is free; the account maintenance fee is 1.90 GEL a month in the fee table but 0 GEL on the business account page, so confirm the price with the bank.

For expats, the TBC Card package costs 10 GEL a month; the annual package is activated with a one-time payment of 100 GEL. The full fees are on the bank’s terms and fees page.

Things to keep in mind

Some applications need additional checks; according to the bank, this is a standard procedure and happens rarely. Physical cards are produced at the branch you choose: within 1 business day in Tbilisi and 2 business days in the regions. You can use the digital card as soon as you add it to your digital wallet.
