Who can open an account

According to the bank’s FAQ page, anyone who has turned 18 can open an account, whether they are a citizen of Georgia or of another country. Currently, each client can have only one active account.

The bank also opens business accounts for companies. To open a business account remotely, the company must be registered in Georgia or in a jurisdiction listed in Annex 1 to the National Bank of Georgia’s rules. The same requirement applies to the companies in its ownership structure, and the directors and the ultimate beneficial owner must be citizens of Georgia or of a country on the same list, or hold a Georgian residence permit.

How to open an account

In the app, choose registration, enter your personal details, phone number and email, confirm the one-time code and complete photo verification. A multi-currency account (GEL, USD, EUR) then opens automatically.

For a business account, you send the bank the company’s name, identification code, phone number and email. The bank sends you the documents and, according to its FAQ, a bank representative visits you to complete the process; this usually takes 1-3 business days. Paper copies of documents submitted electronically must be provided within 60 calendar days of the account opening.

Documents you will need

  • For foreigners: an international passport or a residence card issued in Georgia
  • For Georgian citizens: an ID card or passport
  • For US citizens and tax residents: a US taxpayer identification number form (FATCA)
  • For companies: an account opening application, KYC and CRS questionnaires and additional documents depending on the business activity

Fees and charges

According to the bank’s FAQ page, opening, maintaining and closing an account are free, as are digital and physical cards and their delivery within Georgia. Opening a business account and its monthly maintenance are also free. No fee table with an effective date is published on the website.

Things to keep in mind

You must use the account yourself, not on behalf of another person. The client confirms that they are not on any sanctions list and do not live in a country under comprehensive sanctions. The bank’s branches page lists only the Batumi office.
